Llynclys Arrival

The latest arrival for restoration at Llynclys is a BR Mk 1 CL E43046. This was previously at the National Railway Museum at York where it had been in storage for many years.

Following negotiations the deal was closed and the coach was collected from York and brought to CHR. There has been much interest in the coach and whilst a full evaluation needs to be completed the first inspections show that the general condition is a bit rough round the edges but underneath there is a good basis from which to start. The restoration required is similar to the work the Tony and team have already undertaken. It will take time and money to return the coach to operating condition.

Guy N took his camera and took some exterior photos so you can see the condition before restoration starts.

The configuration of the coach is of two sets of compartments separated by two toilets in the middle. There are five third class and three first class compartments, each set with a single toilet.  The first view shows the asymmetric coach side. The first class compartments nearest the camera are connected to their toilet via a corridor on the side closest to the camera with the larger picture windows.

The second class on this side has the five individual access doors to the compartments.
The coach has no corridoor connections to adjacent carriages so the ends are plain although there is some corrosion in the bottom corners.
The coach is now safely stored at Llynclys awaiting it's turn for restoration.
You can see from a detail photo of a door that there is plenty of work to do.

There is plenty of work to keep Tony and the team busy.  Funds are still needed to pay for the transport and donations can be made via the website.

Thanks to Guy N for the pictures and we wish the C&W team all the best with their projects.

Until next time.
