Screened This Week

The week of screening has come to an end and the progress has been remarkable.  Firstly the machine has run as intended, which is payback for the volunteers who invested time and money to purchase the machine and carry out the necessary overhaul. There have been quite a few people involved this week and a fair few visitors.  Colin took these pictures at the close of play on Thursday.

The first picture shows three freshly mined piles of ballast with the resulting spoil next to them.
The next picture is looking the other way, back towards Oswestry, with the piles heading off in to the distance.  As you can see the distance from base increases so transport becomes necessary to reach the work site.
Looking south you can see what is left to screen on this section. Just beyond Betsy the excavator is the cattle creep.  There is another day of work to screen the ballast on this section.
Lastly is a picture from Glyn W showing the piles in the setting sun.  The total for the week was 17 ballast piles.  That means that overall we have 23 mounds of ballast ready to be used.

Thanks to everyone who helped during the week and special mention to Glyn for driving the excavator.

Until next time
